Production Technician - Genomics (Molecular Biology)

Location: Onsite in the Emeryville, California office and laboratory. The role is 30 hours per week, with day, evening, occasional weekend, and after-hours shifts based on operational needs.

What you will do

• Perform DNA extraction, sample preparation, and other routine molecular biology production activities.
• Process assigned soil sample volumes accurately and efficiently while meeting throughput and quality standards.
• Set up, operate, monitor, clean, inspect, and perform basic maintenance on liquid handlers, centrifuges, autoclaves, pipettes, and related equipment.
• Prepare and handle reagents and waste safely while following laboratory safety protocols and using provided PPE.
• Label, package, store, and organize processed samples according to workplace procedures.
• Record production data, complete documentation, and report equipment issues promptly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor's degree in laboratory science or a related field is preferred, and equivalent experience may substitute.
• Ability to follow protocols and standard operating procedures precisely and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment.
• Strong reliability, attention to detail, multitasking ability, and consistent quality during repetitive tasks.
• Comfort working with large volumes of soil and soil slurry, with the ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Basic computer and IT troubleshooting skills, hand-tool competency, and knowledge of laboratory safety guidelines.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience in a biology, soil processing, environmental, or production laboratory.
• Experience handling environmental or soil samples.
• Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
