Backend Engineer (PHP/Symfony)

Location: Berlin, Germany; remote work is available for up to 50% of the year, including up to 63 working days abroad.

What you will do

• Work with business stakeholders to identify requirements, plan milestones, and measure feature performance.
• Decompose the monolith and build a modern import/export pipeline supporting hundreds of third-party integrations.
• Migrate the application environment from a private cloud to AWS.
• Define technical and business metrics for feature monitoring and risk management.
• Apply engineering best practices and solve technical design issues.

Requirements

• Relevant backend engineering experience.
• Proficiency in modern PHP, Symfony, relational and non-relational databases, Docker, and containerized environments.
• Practical knowledge of monolith decomposition, clean coding, test-driven development, and SOLID principles.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development, including agentic coding tools and workflows.
• Fluent English required; ability to work efficiently in a distributed team.

Nice to have

• Experience with layered architectures.
• Experience with CQRS patterns.
• Understanding of Domain-Driven Design principles.
