Platform Database Engineer (PostgreSQL)

Location: Remote, with significant overlap to business hours in Germany (CET/CEST)

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate PostgreSQL database solutions for central multi-tenant platform services.
• Own PostgreSQL schema design, performance tuning, and operational stability.
• Plan and execute migrations from legacy and heterogeneous database systems to PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with backend engineering teams to integrate database solutions into backend services.
• Define relational data modeling and database operations standards and contribute to platform architecture and long-term data strategy.
• Ensure high availability, backup and recovery, predictable performance, and effective support for product teams.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
• Experience with database migration and modernization projects.
• Experience operating PostgreSQL in cloud environments, preferably AWS RDS or Aurora.
• Understanding of backend architectures and data access patterns, plus proficiency in at least one backend programming language.
• Fluent English and availability for significant overlap with German business hours (CET/CEST) are required.

Nice to have

• German language skills.
• Experience with high availability, replication, failover, backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
• Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, and database monitoring experience.
• Exposure to Node.js, .NET, or similar backend ecosystems.
