Node.js Backend Developer (Banking)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; hybrid with office attendance 4 days per week

Salary: CAD 70,000–95,000 base compensation annually

What you will do

• Develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise banking platforms.
• Build secure, performant, scalable, and reliable cloud-native solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and production support.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience; the role description also specifies 6+ years of experience.
• Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js or NestJS.
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices architecture, and SQL and NoSQL databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of secure coding and software engineering best practices.
• Ability to use effective prompts with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Claude.

Nice to have

• Banking or financial services experience.
• Kafka, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native development experience.
• Agile/Scrum delivery experience, DevOps automation, or exposure to React and Angular.
• Experience with Open Banking or payments.
