Accounting Technical Specialist

Location: Penang, Malaysia; hybrid work model with time split between the assigned hirify.global site and off-site work

What you will do

• Review entity accountants’ work and ensure accurate, timely statutory reporting, financial statements, monthly and quarterly close activities, account analysis, audit support, and government submissions.
• Advise stakeholders and directors on complex accounting matters involving revenue recognition, fixed assets, inventory, investments, compensation, and benefits.
• Research technical accounting issues, prepare whitepapers, and recommend appropriate treatments under US GAAP, IFRS, and local GAAP.
• Monitor regulatory developments, including ESG, AMLA, and new IFRS standards, while managing related risks and controls.
• Drive transformation, process standardization, automation, statutory reporting improvements, legal entity rationalization, liquidations, and restructuring initiatives.
• Partner with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, HR, Procurement, Corporate Services, and other functions on compliance, SAP S4 design, implementation, and operational projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or professional degree in Accountancy.
• Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, MICPA, or equivalent.
• At least 9 years of experience in a global organization.
• Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, local GAAP, local laws, and regulations.
• Strong project management, communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently across organizations and geographies in an ambiguous environment.

Nice to have

• External audit experience.
• Experience with SAP S4, financial systems, local GAAP, and reporting systems.
• Experience in shared services managing compliance across countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
