Senior Manager, Detection & Response (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, with more than half of the time onsite and three days per week in the office

Salary: $270,000–$290,000 base compensation, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead incident response and security operations as the senior escalation point and incident commander.
• Build and mature detection engineering across cloud, endpoint, and application layers.
• Own the security logging and telemetry pipeline, ensuring data is collected, normalized, and usable for detection.
• Define the operating model for internal capabilities, managed services, and strategic security vendors.
• Modernize the SOC with automation and AI, manage playbooks and escalation paths, and run tabletop exercises.
• Build, manage, and coach a small team of detection and response engineers while reporting program maturity and incident trends to executives.

Requirements

• Experience building or scaling a detection engineering or security operations program.
• Deep understanding of modern adversary tradecraft and experience applying threat intelligence to detection, threat hunting, and response.
• Experience leading incident command for security incidents involving technical teams and executive stakeholders.
• Experience extending lean team coverage through managed services or security vendors and managing measurable outcomes.
• Familiarity with automation or AI/ML techniques for security operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving skills, and judgment in ambiguous situations.
