Senior Server (Scala) Engineer

Location: Remote within the United Kingdom; employee must currently be located in the UK. No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance available.

Salary: £110,000–£115,000 gross annual base pay, plus eligibility for an annual company performance bonus.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain the QAD Redzone Scala API backend for manufacturing frontline teams.
• Develop and maintain the MCP server to support AI integrations and internal tooling.
• Improve OpenSearch usage within the backend application.
• Deliver sprint commitments and contribute to continuous system improvements.
• Provide backend subject-matter expertise during incidents and help resolve customer issues.
• Write testable, maintainable, and observable code in a large legacy codebase.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant professional experience as a Backend Engineer.
• 5+ years of professional Scala experience and working knowledge of Java.
• Experience with API-first design, OpenAPI Specification, Tapir, versioned API contracts, and Chimney.
• Experience with Cats Effect, Avro-formatted Kafka messages, PostgreSQL, Slick or Doobie, and database migration patterns.
• Experience writing testable code with tools such as Specs2 and ScalaMock, plus familiarity with modularized programming and legacy code refactoring.
• Experience with Trunk Based Development, LaunchDarkly, GitHub Actions, AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and Docker.
