Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the data layer behind the analytics product and design the analytics architecture and data model.
• Maintain a high-performance analytical store serving customer-facing queries.
• Design and build a tiered platform including system of record, low-latency serving tier, and batch/ML tier.
• Optimize database performance and scaling, and fix related issues.
• Build observability into the data layer to detect problems early.
• Collaborate with the ingestion team to keep read and write paths coherent as schemas evolve.

Requirements

• Deep production experience with databases or analytical stores under concurrent, customer-facing load.
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of columnar/OLAP execution.
• Solid backend engineering experience, preferably with Java.
• Experience designing or shaping multi-tier data platforms with data architecture expertise.
• Location: Remote work from Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with Lakehouse technologies such as Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, or Iceberg.
• Experience designing schemas for wide, semi-structured event data (nested objects, maps, JSON).
• Streaming ingestion experience with Kafka or similar tools.
• Experience with migrations or major re-architectures backed by cost and latency reasoning.
• ClickHouse experience and connection-pool/JDBC tuning.
• Familiarity with feature-flagged rollouts and open-source contributions to query engines.
