Director of Data Science and Bioinformatics (Genomics)

Salary: $195,600–$244,450 USD annually, plus performance bonus and equity awards

What you will do

• Build and define the Bioinformatics function within the Data Science development team.
• Set technical roadmaps, identify tooling gaps, and establish pipeline, algorithm, validation, review, and documentation standards.
• Architect scalable AWS infrastructure and reliable deployment workflows for data-intensive bioinformatics workloads and NGS algorithms.
• Implement MLOps tooling and automated validation frameworks for clinical production deployment.
• Partner with Research, Product Development, Laboratory Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams to productize stable, scalable pipelines.
• Lead, mentor, and hire bioinformaticians and data scientists while building technical depth for expanding product roadmaps.

Requirements

• Master of Science or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in Data Science or Bioinformatics, including 5 years of direct people management experience.
• Hands-on experience architecting AWS infrastructure for bioinformatics workloads and NGS pipeline execution.
• Ability to identify capability gaps, build scalable infrastructure, and drive execution independently.
• Strong communication and cross-functional alignment skills across Research, Engineering, and Quality teams.
• Track record of developing bioinformatics talent and delivering computational pipelines for commercial products.

Nice to have

• Experience developing software and pipelines in regulated environments such as CLIA, FDA, or ISO frameworks.
• Experience with MLflow, Nextflow, WDL, Docker, or other MLOps and pipeline tools.
• Advanced knowledge of statistical inference, machine learning, and genomic data processing.
