Software Security Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Design and implement secure boot chains, hardware-backed roots of trust, and firmware verification for embedded flight systems.
• Develop and integrate encryption, key exchange, digital signatures, and other cryptographic protocols for embedded and distributed systems.
• Own code-signing infrastructure and verification workflows for firmware, flight software, and field updates.
• Design key generation, storage, rotation, and provisioning systems across development, manufacturing, and deployed environments.
• Implement authenticated and encrypted communications between vehicles, ground systems, and internal subsystems.
• Perform threat modeling and security reviews while collaborating with embedded, avionics, hardware, and infrastructure engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with applied cryptography or security engineering.
• Experience implementing encryption, authentication, or digital signatures in C, C++, Rust, or similar systems languages.
• Strong understanding of PKI, TLS, key exchange, hashing, and digital signatures.
• Experience with Linux-based or embedded environments.
• Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with secure boot, hardware roots of trust, TPMs, HSMs, or secure elements.
• Experience with code-signing pipelines, artifact verification, and secure provisioning in manufacturing environments.
• Background in embedded, aerospace, defense, safety-critical, or real-time systems.
• Experience with mTLS, certificate lifecycle management, and replay protection.
