Kernel Driver Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Jose, California; fully in-person team

Salary: $150,000–$275,000 per year, plus significant equity

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain reliable kernel-mode drivers for new ML accelerators.
• Optimize driver latency and throughput for demanding AI workloads and high-bandwidth data transfers.
• Implement memory management using kernel mappings, page tables, NUMA-aware caching, and IOMMU configuration.
• Develop support for SR-IOV, VFIO, para-virtualization, device security, and attestation.
• Optimize PCIe communication and power management, including work with PCIe analyzers.
• Debug system-level hardware and software issues, build performance benchmarks, and validate drivers in manufacturing and production environments.

Requirements

• Proficiency in C/C++ and strong knowledge of Linux kernel internals.
• Experience developing and debugging kernel-mode drivers and interfacing software with hardware devices.
• Strong understanding of memory management, synchronization, PCIe, page tables, and IOMMU.
• Experience with device virtualization technologies such as SR-IOV and VFIO.
• Ability to analyze complex technical problems and collaborate across hardware and software teams.
• Experience with Git and debugging tools such as gdb, kgdb, ftrace, and dmesg.

Nice to have

• GPU or accelerator driver development and experience with ML workloads.
• CUDA, OpenCL, TensorFlow, or PyTorch experience.
• Performance profiling with perf or VTune and knowledge of hardware virtualization.
• Experience with Rust, CI/CD, Kubernetes, or Docker.
