Staff Software Engineer (Reporting Engine)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Ramon, California, or New York, New York

Salary: $182,500–$228,000 typical starting annual range; $200,500–$251,000 alternate range may apply in select locations including the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Metro Area.

What you will do

• Serve as technical lead for the Reporting Engine rearchitecture, performance scaling, and AI reporting integration.
• Design and evolve reliable, performant, and extensible data-querying systems for complex datasets.
• Drive architectural decisions across data modeling, distributed systems, query optimization, and scalable services.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver customer-facing reporting features.
• Lead design reviews, guide implementation, and represent the Reporting team in cross-functional planning and engineering leadership forums.
• Mentor staff- and senior-level engineers while establishing engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership of large-scale systems.
• Experience designing and evolving data-intensive applications, especially for reporting or analytics.
• Proficiency with Python or Kotlin; experience with both is beneficial.
• Experience with modern cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and scalable event-driven services.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data pipelines, and performance optimization.
• Ability to influence architecture, lead without authority, communicate effectively, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with both Python and Kotlin.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React.
• Interest in learning cutting-edge technologies and developing expertise in a business domain.
