Thermal Manufacturing Engineer (Liquid Cooling)

Location: On-site in San Jose, California. Relocation support is available for those moving to San Jose.

What you will do

• Own manufacturing engineering for thermal components and assemblies, from new product introduction through mass production.
• Develop, qualify, and optimize cold plate and manifold fabrication processes, including skiving, vacuum brazing, friction stir welding, diffusion bonding, gun drilling, and extrusion-based channel formation.
• Define process parameters, controls, acceptance criteria, and capability benchmarks for yield, leak rate, flatness, pressure drop, and thermal performance.
• Partner with thermal and mechanical design teams on design-for-manufacturing and design-for-yield reviews.
• Lead supplier and contract manufacturer process qualification, first-article inspection, failure analysis, and corrective actions.
• Integrate pressure, flow, leak, and thermal performance testing into production lines while driving cost, cycle-time, and quality improvements.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or thermal systems manufacturing, including hands-on production of liquid cold plates or heat exchangers.
• Expertise in at least two cold plate fabrication processes, such as skiving, vacuum brazing, friction stir welding, diffusion bonding, gun drilling, or extrusion-based channel formation.
• Knowledge of aluminum and copper alloys, braze alloy selection, and metallurgical failure modes.
• Experience with Cpk, GR&R, process capability studies, PFMEA, control plans, work instructions, and first-article inspection reports.
• Hands-on experience with helium leak testing, hydrostatic pressure testing, flow and pressure-drop characterization, and flatness measurement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with server, HPC, datacenter, or power electronics thermal management.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers and thermal component suppliers in Asia.
• Familiarity with single-loop, CDU-based, and direct liquid cooling architectures.
