Senior Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; on-site

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 USD per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and implement high-throughput payment processing systems with strict reliability requirements.
• Build merchant-facing APIs and SDKs for platform integrations.
• Develop fraud detection and risk management features using real-time data analysis.
• Architect and scale services through database optimization, caching, observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Own features end-to-end from technical design through deployment and iteration.
• Contribute to architecture and tooling decisions, mentor engineers, and help shape engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience with REST API design, relational and document databases, especially MongoDB, and distributed systems.
• Experience building high-volume or highly reliable production systems.
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP and containerized deployments.
• Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with React.
• Background in payments, fintech, blockchain, or cryptocurrency.
