Engineering Director, Payments Platform (Fintech)

Location: London; this role can also be based in Singapore or San Francisco, United States.

What you will do

• Define and execute the end-to-end vision, strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Payments Platform.
• Oversee payment processing, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and partner integrations across global markets.
• Lead, coach, and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical talent across multiple squads.
• Guide architecture for high-volume, mission-critical payment systems, setting standards for reliability, observability, security, scalability, and developer productivity.
• Set OKRs, manage multiple concurrent initiatives, and balance near-term delivery with long-term platform investments.
• Partner with Product, Commercial, Risk, Compliance, and regional engineering leaders to align technology with business and regulatory outcomes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
• Experience managing Engineering Managers or Engineering Leads and scaling high-performing teams.
• Strong product thinking and experience partnering with Product Management on roadmaps, prioritization, and business outcomes.
• Deep technical fluency in software architecture, system design, and large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with strong ownership and execution.
• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or another regulated industry where correctness and data integrity are critical.
