TL;DR
Machine Learning Engineer II - 3D Perception (Python/PyTorch): Building and improving production machine learning models for autonomous-truck perception with an accent on camera-based 3D perception, BEV representations, and multi-modal sensor data. Focus on training and evaluating deep learning models, analyzing failure modes, integrating inference workflows into autonomy software, and improving model robustness and system performance.

Location: Remote in the United States or hybrid at office locations in Ann Arbor, MI; Blacksburg, VA; or Fort Worth, TX.

Salary: $153,200–$183,800 USD annually, plus bonus and stock options.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, evaluate, and improve machine learning models for autonomous-vehicle perception.
  • Own model development and delivery from data preparation and training through evaluation and production integration.
  • Write production-quality Python and PyTorch code for scalable training, evaluation, and inference workflows.
  • Develop camera-based and 3D perception models using multi-modal sensor data, including LiDAR where applicable.
  • Analyze model performance and failure modes, troubleshoot issues, and improve robustness, accuracy, and generalization.
  • Collaborate with software, infrastructure, and autonomy engineers; lead small technical initiatives and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, machine learning, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant industry experience; or a master’s degree with 1+ years of relevant experience; equivalent practical experience is also accepted.
  • Experience developing machine learning models for computer vision, perception, robotics, autonomous systems, or a related domain.
  • Strong Python and PyTorch programming skills and experience writing maintainable, production-quality machine learning code.
  • Experience training, evaluating, debugging, and improving deep learning models with large-scale datasets.
  • Experience with image-based and/or 3D perception systems and deep learning architectures used for perception.
  • Ability to execute complex machine learning work independently and collaborate across software systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with autonomous driving, robotics, ADAS, LiDAR, point clouds, sensor fusion, BEV representations, temporal perception, or video-based learning.
  • Experience with C++, ROS, robotics software, or deploying models to production autonomy platforms.
  • Experience with distributed training, large-scale perception datasets, evaluation frameworks, benchmarking, and ML tooling.
  • Experience owning a production ML component or leading a small technical initiative through deployment.
