Staff+ Researcher, Cybersecurity Products (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; hybrid policy requires staff to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

What you will do

• Prototype AI capabilities for vulnerability research, reverse engineering, incident response, offensive security, and related cybersecurity work.
• Design rigorous evaluations that measure model performance in realistic security workflows.
• Build datasets, evaluation harnesses, scoring systems, and benchmarks.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity practitioners to identify high-impact applications for AI.
• Work with engineers and researchers to operationalize promising capabilities into dependable customer-facing products.
• Share research findings and help shape product priorities and future model capabilities.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in one or more cybersecurity domains, including vulnerability research, exploit development, reverse engineering, malware analysis, incident response, or offensive security.
• Experience building AI-powered tools or capabilities for security work.
• Ability to rapidly develop prototypes and evaluate ideas critically.
• Experience designing rigorous evaluations and interpreting technical results.
• Clear technical writing and communication skills.
• 7+ years of experience in security research, security engineering, or a closely related field, plus a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Published research, CTF results, CVEs, or open-source security tooling.
• Experience with model evaluation, benchmarking, or red teaming.
• Experience building agentic applications.
• Familiarity with AI safety considerations in cybersecurity.
