Java Software Engineer - Material Flow Systems (m/f/d)

Location: Algés, Portugal, with a remote work option and occasional travel to customer sites worldwide and team meetings in Portugal and Germany, typically less than 10% of working time.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Java applications controlling and optimizing automated parcel sorting systems and logistics hubs.
• Design, implement, deliver, and support software for major parcel carriers.
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and reliable operation.
• Troubleshoot software defects and performance issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to development process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least one year of hands-on Java development experience.
• Experience developing or deploying applications in Kubernetes-based environments.
• Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software architecture, and object-oriented design.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
• Excellent English skills in written and spoken communication; willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites and meetings in Portugal and Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience with C# or C++.
• Experience in logistics, warehouse automation, industrial automation, or material flow systems.
• Experience delivering personal, academic, or professional software projects.
