Compute Country Lead (AI), Japan

Location: Tokyo, Japan, with staff expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Own the strategy and coordination for Anthropic’s compute infrastructure expansion in Japan, from site selection through construction and operations.
• Coordinate leasing, financing, energy, policy, community engagement, construction, and operations workstreams.
• Lead the in-country cross-functional team, drive alignment, and unblock issues without direct line authority.
• Represent Anthropic with Japanese government officials, utilities, energy providers, and industry stakeholders.
• Build relationships supporting site, power, regulatory, political, and market outcomes.
• Track risks and progress as the compute footprint scales from initial sites to multiple gigawatts.

Requirements

• Japanese nationality and established government and energy-industry relationships are strongly preferred.
• Background in energy, infrastructure, or a related sector.
• Ability to learn new domains quickly, structure ambiguous problems, and manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Excellent communication skills for representing Anthropic to senior government, utility, and industry stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams without direct line authority.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale infrastructure or datacenter development.
• Relationships with Japanese federal or provincial government bodies involved in energy, land use, or industrial development.
• Experience managing or overseeing capital-intensive projects.
• Familiarity with compute, cloud, or datacenter industries.
