Control Software Engineer - Testing & Integration (Wind Energy)

Location: Hamburg, Germany; flexible working hours with up to 8 days of mobile work per month.

What you will do

• Integrate control functions into wind turbine software and verify their interaction within the complete turbine control system.
• Define test strategies, test cases, acceptance criteria, and validation activities for closed-loop control software.
• Plan and execute Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing with simulated turbine environments and real controller hardware.
• Develop system-level scenarios for turbine and wind farm control systems, including complex grid requirements and abnormal operating conditions.
• Build automated test frameworks, scripts, and regression tests, primarily with Python, to improve coverage and repeatability.
• Analyze failures, identify root causes, reproduce field issues, and collaborate with control, software, and system engineers on corrective solutions.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in control, electrical, automation, mechanical, software engineering, or a comparable technical discipline focused on control or automation systems.
• Strong understanding of control engineering, closed-loop control systems, and dynamic systems.
• Practical experience with control software, embedded software, controller-based systems, or complex function integration and validation.
• Experience with HiL and/or SiL testing, PLC/SPS programming, industrial control systems, ECUs, or embedded controllers.
• Programming or scripting skills, preferably Python, with experience creating automated tests, regression tests, or test frameworks.
• Very good English skills required; German and/or Spanish are advantageous.

Nice to have

• Experience in wind energy, automotive, industrial automation, or another control-intensive industry.
• Hands-on software debugging, defect investigation, or software bug-fixing experience.
• Knowledge of German and/or Spanish.
