Senior Data Engineer (Data Platform)

TL;DR

Senior Data Engineer (Data Platform): Building and operating scalable data ingestion, processing, and serving systems across heterogeneous sources with an accent on platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, orchestration, and data reliability. Focus on designing production data platforms, improving observability and cost efficiency, operating Kubernetes and Airflow workloads, and enabling self-service data consumption across the company.

Location: Remote or hybrid, with a Barcelona hub; must be based in Spain or Poland.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable ingestion and processing pipelines across multiple source systems.
• Lead platform architecture decisions, document proposals, and drive them from design through production.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Develop infrastructure with Platform engineers using cloud and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Partner with analytics engineers, analysts, developers, product managers, and other data consumers to deliver robust tooling and self-service capabilities.
• Mentor data engineers and drive automation, including AI-assisted operational tooling.

Requirements

• Several years of experience building and operating production data platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, orchestration, ingestion, and event streaming.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with software engineering practices covering testing, CI/CD, and code review.
• Deep experience with Airflow, including operating, scaling, and debugging the orchestrator.
• Strong experience with AWS and cloud data warehouses, plus working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing for failure through idempotency, backfills, data quality checks, monitoring, and incident response.
• Very good English communication skills and residence in Spain or Poland are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar message-driven architectures.
• Terraform, Kubernetes operations, Docker optimization, and CI/CD experience.
• dbt, Spark, or experience operationalizing machine learning models.
