QA Manager, Cinema Technology

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; regular on-site work is required in the San Francisco hardware labs.

Base salary: $152,900–$210,200 annually, plus bonus and benefits; some roles may include equity.

What you will do

• Lead and manage technical test engineers while providing management and hands-on technical oversight.
• Develop QA strategies, test plans, test cases, test matrices, release criteria, and quality reports for cinema video and audio products.
• Design, configure, document, and maintain hardware laboratories and integrated cinema test environments.
• Lead system-level, integration, interoperability, regression, performance, reliability, negative, and upgrade testing.
• Coordinate defect triage, root-cause investigation, fix verification, and release-quality decisions across engineering and business stakeholders.
• Act as the primary QA interface for external projector and hardware partners and improve coverage through automation, data analysis, and AI-assisted tools.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of management experience and 8+ years in quality test engineering, systems testing, hardware validation, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience leading QA for video, imaging, projection, display, media, broadcast, cinema, or other complex hardware-software systems.
• Hands-on experience configuring, operating, testing, and troubleshooting integrated systems involving projectors, video servers, audio equipment, networking, and measurement tools.
• Strong knowledge of test methodologies, automated testing, defect tracking, release processes, and software development practices.
• Knowledge of digital imaging and video fundamentals, including video formats, color spaces, HDMI and/or SDI, signal paths, image processing, and picture-quality evaluation.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. Ability to work regularly on-site in San Francisco is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with advanced cinema projection, laser illumination, high-brightness displays, stereoscopic 3D, hirify.global Cinema, hirify.global Vision, or comparable imaging products.
• Working knowledge of Python and PyTest for test utilities, data collection, analysis, or regression support.
• Experience developing or adopting AI-assisted QA tools, custom agents, or data-driven workflows.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Imaging Science, or a related field.
