Quality Assurance Specialist 3 (Nuclear Software QA) (Nuclear Software QA): Supporting the development and implementation of quality assurance programs for safety-related digital instrumentation, control, and analytical software with an accent on software oversight, verification and validation, audits, and nuclear QA standards. Focus on reviewing SIL 3 or higher software systems, auditing configuration management and testing processes, and ensuring compliance with NQA-1, 10 CFR requirements, and IEEE 1012.
Location: Remote within the contiguous United States, with national and local travel as required for business needs.

What you will do
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of nuclear software quality assurance program processes, procedures, and guidance.
- Review safety-related software design, testing, Level 2 and higher procedures, and quality requirements for SIL 3 or higher systems.
- Perform audits and oversight of software configuration management, independent verification and validation, testing, surveys, surveillances, and assessments.
- Provide quality assurance guidance for digital instrumentation and control development, software change control, and safety-related activities.
- Participate in supplier qualification, internal and external audits, causal analyses, cybersecurity assessments, and related quality initiatives.
- Mentor personnel and work toward certification as a Lead Auditor within one year.
Requirements
- Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer technology, software engineering, instrumentation and controls, or a related field, or 10+ years of directly applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least five years of experience developing or implementing nuclear quality assurance programs covering digital I&C and analytical or calculations software in accordance with NQA-1.
- Knowledge of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, NQA-1, IEEE 1012, and applicable software quality standards.
- Experience with safety-related I&C quality oversight, software testing, verification and validation, configuration management, and waterfall or V-Model development processes.
- Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across stakeholders, work independently, and travel nationally and locally.
Nice to have
- Experience with ISO 90003-2004, cybersecurity assessments, commercial-grade dedication, and safety-related I&C change control boards.
- Familiarity with US Regulatory Guide 5.71, NEI 08-09, and CSA Z299.
- Experience with hardware and software independent reviews and verification and validation testing.
