Technical Team Lead (FinTech)

Location: Fully remote, with candidates required to be located within Africa.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end architecture for commercial systems, including service boundaries, data models, event flows, and frontend-service contracts.
• Lead design documentation, RFC reviews, engineering standards, and technical decision-making across the Commercial Pod.
• Build the highest-risk production features across Vue 3 frontends and TypeScript serverless and containerized services.
• Set engineering quality standards through code reviews, testing, observability, fault tolerance, and graceful failure handling.
• Own production health, incident response, root cause analysis, SLOs, monitoring, and follow-up delivery.
• Mentor engineers, partner with Product, support technical hiring, and lead knowledge-sharing activities.

Requirements

• Must be located within Africa and comfortable working fully remotely.
• 7+ years of experience building and operating production systems, including at least 2 years as a technical lead, staff engineer, or equivalent.
• Strong full-stack capability with TypeScript, Node.js, Vue 3, modern frontend development, and backend service architecture.
• Deep AWS experience with serverless and event-driven systems, including production experience with idempotency, queues, dead-letter handling, and backoff strategies.
• Experience leading architecture adoption, improving existing codebases, managing technical debt, and operating on-call and incident-response processes.
• Strong API design, REST, versioning, client-server contracts, technical writing, mentorship, and Agile/Scrum experience.

Nice to have

• FinTech, crypto, trading, treasury, FX, money movement, or ledger-correctness experience.
• Experience with African markets or multi-currency, multi-regulator environments.
• Kubernetes, EKS, Helm, Istio, Datadog SLOs, tracing, and production AI-backed features.
• Experience introducing RFC or design-review practices and contributing to shared design systems.
