Sr. Manager, System Engeineering

Database infrastructure company building and operating a distributed database platform supported by private data center infrastructure and large-scale testing systems.

What you will do

• Lead daily engineering operations for data center and infrastructure systems, maintaining reliability, scalability, and execution quality.
• Manage and mentor a small systems engineering team while contributing to architecture reviews, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Own infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and orchestration.
• Improve hardware reliability, installation standards, maintenance planning, provisioning, configuration management, and lifecycle operations.
• Coordinate deployments and testing with internal teams, contractors, and external vendors.
• Lead root cause analysis, repair planning, documentation, hiring, and broader reliability improvements.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure software, platform engineering, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience leading engineers or technical teams in a manager, team lead, or player-coach capacity.
• Strong experience with data center systems, storage, networking, virtualization, distributed systems, or related infrastructure domains.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tooling, plus infrastructure automation and configuration management.
• Experience migrating data center services or infrastructure platforms to Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in C, C++, or Go and scripting with Python, Bash, or similar languages; strong Unix command-line and debugging skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with low-level monitoring, profiling, or performance analysis tools.
• Experience with large-scale storage systems, hardware reliability programs, or high-throughput engineering workloads.
• Experience maintaining documentation and operational knowledge through automation.
• Experience with tightly coupled infrastructure software and physical data center operations.
• Familiarity with hirify.global or other distributed database systems.
