Lead Android Platform Engineer

TL;DR

Lead Android Platform Engineer (Android/Linux): Architecting and delivering Android-based appliance platforms for advanced video collaboration and embedded systems with an accent on kernel development, device drivers, HAL integration, and multimedia frameworks. Focus on hardware bring-up, cross-layer debugging, performance optimization, security, and production delivery across complex hardware/software systems.

Location: Hybrid position based in San Jose, California, USA, with onsite work required 2–3 days per week and remote work on the remaining days.

Salary: $168,000–$240,000 annual base salary, depending on location and experience.

What you will do

• Architect, develop, integrate, and deliver Android-based appliance platforms for video collaboration and embedded systems products.
• Customize Android system behavior for kiosk-style operation, device management, security, reliability, recovery, updates, and production readiness.
• Develop and debug Linux kernel components, device drivers, device trees, hardware interfaces, and low-level system behavior.
• Integrate Android HALs, vendor services, native daemons, Binder IPC, SELinux policies, and Android framework services.
• Lead technical work across camera, display, and audio frameworks, including multimedia pipelines and cross-subsystem synchronization.
• Guide architecture decisions, review partner designs, resolve integration issues, document solutions, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in embedded Linux, Android platform development, or Android device software engineering.
• Hands-on experience building and shipping Android-based hardware products, including Android architecture, AOSP, BSP integration, and platform bring-up.
• Strong Linux kernel, device driver, device tree, debugging, performance analysis, Android build system, Git, Gerrit, CI, and SELinux experience.
• Deep expertise in at least one Android subsystem: Camera Framework, Display Framework, or Audio Framework.
• Ability to collaborate with hardware, firmware, application, QA, manufacturing, vendor, ODM, JDM, and external partner teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with video conferencing, smart displays, consumer electronics, enterprise devices, multi-camera systems, video pipelines, ISP tuning, or computer vision.
• Experience with audio DSPs, microphone arrays, beamforming, echo cancellation, HDMI, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and touch controllers.
• Experience with Android Enterprise, kiosk mode, secure boot, OTA updates, factory provisioning, CTS/VTS, GMS, or device certification.
• Experience with Qualcomm, MediaTek, NXP, Ambarella, Rockchip, or similar SoC platforms.
• Experience with Perfetto, systrace, ftrace, simpleperf, logcat, dumpsys, bugreport, and kernel tracing.
