What you will do
- Review complex surgical procedures and high-acuity services for accurate code selection and documentation.
- Conduct comprehensive audits of professional coders and providers against CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, HCC, and payer-specific guidelines.
- Analyze coding and documentation patterns to identify compliance, regulatory, and revenue-integrity risks.
- Provide actionable feedback to providers, coders, and leadership to improve documentation and coding accuracy.
- Develop and deliver education, onboarding, and training based on audit findings, regulatory updates, and knowledge gaps.
- Prepare analytical reports, summarize trends, and recommend practical improvements to support leadership decisions.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of professional coding experience, including surgical procedures, plus two years of auditing and/or education experience.
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT, HCC, medical terminology, Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and payer policies.
- Required certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CPC.
- Ability to maintain coding audit accuracy of at least 95% and complete assigned audit and education plans.
- Ability to work remotely from the United States.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare field.
- Previous experience with provider education and auditing.
- CPMA, CRC, or CDEO certification.
