Lead Software Engineer (IBM z/OS)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, Colorado, United States; 5–10% travel required

Salary: $163,500–$261,500 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Oversee second- and third-level incident and problem resolution across production and development environments.
• Support maintenance releases, new client implementations, testing, and certification for IBM z/OS390 clearing and settlement applications.
• Maintain the integrity, availability, security, and performance of batch processing infrastructure supporting approximately $5 billion and 240 million transactions daily.
• Provide technical guidance to client services, network operations, implementation, and technical support teams while serving as the escalation point for complex issues.
• Lead automation, disaster recovery, monitoring, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives for 24x7 mainframe operations.
• Guide technical decisions, mentor team members, and evaluate AI, cloud, and mainframe modernization technologies.

Requirements

• 12–15 years of experience supporting or developing IBM z/OS390 Connex Advantage clearing and settlement batch applications.
• 12–15 years of experience with COBOL/JCL, EFT settlement and transaction processing, and FILE-AID.
• Experience with ESP, Control-M, or CA7 scheduling software and FTP/SSL, FTP/SSH, or NDM over SSL/TLS transmission methods.
• Relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, an advanced degree, or equivalent practical experience in data processing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, mentoring, multitasking, and independent-working skills.
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations supporting 24x7 mainframe operations.

Nice to have

• Configuration automation experience.
• Hands-on AI and large language model experience, especially integrating AI solutions with legacy mainframe environments.
• Machine learning framework experience for business process automation or data analytics.
• REXX or ISPF Dialog Manager experience.
