Director - Senior Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; at least 3 days in the office are required

What you will do

• Advise business and technology teams on deal structures, commercial matters, strategic initiatives, and legal risks.
• Draft, negotiate, and complete complex commercial, technology, and strategic partnership agreements.
• Support hirify.global's Japan business and coordinate legal matters across the Japan, Korea, and Mongolia cluster.
• Advise on payment regulations, regulatory consultations, and government engagements.
• Collaborate with global and regional legal teams and engage senior business stakeholders.
• Travel periodically for work and perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Chief Counsel for Asia Pacific.

Requirements

• 12–15+ years of post-qualification legal experience and qualification to practice law in Japan or a common law jurisdiction.
• Strong corporate and commercial law experience, including complex cross-border transactions at a top-tier law firm or multinational company.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Japanese are required.
• Ability to work in Tokyo, Japan and attend the office at least 3 days per week.
• Strong legal drafting, analytical, risk-judgment, negotiation, business, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and advise executive-level stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the Asia Pacific region and international legal experience.
• Knowledge of antitrust, anti-bribery, privacy, and intellectual property law.
• Interest in technology, payments, and the fintech industry.
