TL;DR
Platform Engineer (Kubernetes): Building and operating secure, cloud-based platform environments for federal software delivery with an accent on Kubernetes, AWS infrastructure, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD automation. Focus on designing reliable platform services, solving deployment and integration issues, and strengthening security, observability, and operational standards.
Location: Remote within the United States; US citizenship and eligibility for CUI access are required. An active Secret clearance is required to apply. Travel expectations are 5–10%.
Salary: $123,250–$166,750

What you will do
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters and containerized deployments across AWS, EKS, RKE2, and other cloud environments.
- Develop infrastructure as code and manage repeatable platform provisioning and configuration.
- Own CI/CD pipelines, GitLab runners, automated builds, and deployment workflows.
- Operate identity and access management, monitoring, alerting, logging, and certificate lifecycle automation.
- Improve platform security through container security, Iron Bank compliance, DevSecOps practices, and ATO support.
- Collaborate with application teams, participate in Tier 2 on-call support, document operational standards, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience, including cluster and workload deployment, management, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Terraform, Pulumi, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools and proficiency with GitLab CI or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix administration, Docker, container registries, YAML, and AWS services including EC2, EKS, IAM, S3, and VPC.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment and solve complex operational problems.
- US citizenship, eligibility for CUI access, and an active Secret clearance to apply are required.
- Possess or be able to obtain DoD 8570 IAT II certification, such as Security+ CE.
Nice to have
- Experience with UDS Core, Iron Bank, C-ATO, production ATO’d systems, or Department of Defense environments.
- Knowledge of Keycloak, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitOps, Flux, or ArgoCD.
- Programming or scripting experience with Go, Python, or Bash.
- AWS platform or solutions architecture certification.
