TL;DR

Director, Automation (OT/GMP): Developing and executing the automation and digital systems strategy for small molecule drug substance manufacturing with an accent on facility design, commissioning, and validation. Focus on establishing scalable OT architecture, managing system integrators, and ensuring GMP compliance.

Location: Currently remote; must be able to transition to an on-site location on the U.S. East-Coast or Mid-West in 2027

Salary: $203,400 – $237,300

What you will do

• Lead the automation workstream for U.S. growth investment projects, aligning with project milestones and GMP expectations.
• Define automation strategy, digital manufacturing roadmaps, and architecture, including control systems, MES, and SCADA.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and IT/OT teams to integrate automation requirements into facility and equipment design.
• Oversee automation-related commissioning, qualification, computer system validation (CSV), and start-up readiness.
• Manage external automation vendors and system integrators to ensure quality execution and risk management.
• Establish the long-term automation support model, including training and operational handover to the site team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical, or Computer Science Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• 12+ years of experience leading automation/OT initiatives within GMP-regulated environments (Pharma, API, Biotech).
• Strong knowledge of MES, SCADA, DCS, PLC technologies, and batch process control architectures.
• Expertise in GAMP 5 principles, CSV, data integrity, and industrial cybersecurity standards.
• Ability and willingness to transition to an East Coast or Midwest U.S. site location as project needs evolve.
• Willingness and ability to travel (25-30%) to North America and EMEA.
