Controls Design Engineer (Automotive): Develops and implements embedded control and diagnostic algorithms for brake and other vehicle systems with an accent on model-based development, calibration, and safety-critical software. Focus on designing control strategies, validating them through MIL, SIL, HIL, and vehicle testing, and solving complex vehicle and customer issues through modeling, simulation, and root cause analysis.
Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote; must be able to report to the local office. Requires 5% travel to client sites nationwide.

What you will do
- Develop and implement control and diagnostic algorithms for brake controls and other vehicle systems using model-based coding and hand-coded C or C++.
- Define calibration strategies, interpret system requirements, and translate them into control and software strategies.
- Design system interfaces that support component reuse and consistent control methodologies.
- Define and execute software unit, MIL, SIL, HIL, bench, and vehicle tests based on system and customer requirements.
- Use modeling, simulation, data collection, and analysis to meet physics-based requirements and resolve vehicle, plant, and customer issues.
- Build tools, libraries, and training materials while mentoring employees and collaborating on component integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least five years of experience as a developer or in a related occupation, including five years in embedded controls and controls software development.
- At least three years of experience with C, Simulink, MATLAB, DOORS, Git, plant modeling, and analysis tools.
- Experience applying control system theory to embedded systems, including state-space feedback, adaptive, or model-predictive control.
- Experience with brake control, chassis control, battery high voltage, vehicle energy transfer, charging, or other automotive systems.
- Experience with electrification, diagnostics, JIRA, and MIL, SIL, HIL, or CPUU testing.
