Java Platform Performance Engineer (Performance Optimization) Fully Remote (Java/distributed systems): Optimizing large-scale Java backend systems across application, middleware, JVM, and infrastructure layers with an accent on profiling, JVM tuning, distributed-system performance, and reliability. Focus on diagnosing production bottlenecks, improving throughput and latency, and building internal tooling for performance testing, observability, and capacity planning.
Location: Asia; fully remote

What you will do
- Analyze and optimize large-scale Java applications across application, middleware, JVM, and infrastructure layers.
- Investigate production performance issues using profiling, tracing, heap analysis, thread analysis, and code review.
- Design performance validation for distributed systems, covering throughput, latency, scalability, and stability.
- Improve runtime performance through JVM tuning, garbage collection optimization, concurrency analysis, and memory leak investigation.
- Optimize MySQL, Redis, Kafka, and other distributed middleware components.
- Build internal platforms and automation tools for performance testing, diagnostics, observability, and capacity planning while partnering with backend and DevOps engineers.
Requirements
- Approximately 1–5 years of engineering experience; exceptional graduates with strong Java fundamentals and hands-on project experience are also welcome.
- Strong Java programming skills and understanding of JVM internals, multithreading, and concurrent programming.
- Experience diagnosing performance bottlenecks through heap analysis, thread analysis, profiling, and GC tuning.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, Spring Boot, microservice architecture, and production troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ, or ZooKeeper, plus MySQL performance optimization and slow-query analysis.
- Experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and internal engineering platforms or developer tooling.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code, with the ability to assess generated code for performance and correctness.
