TL;DR

Postdoctoral Researcher (Biomedical Engineering): Developing and optimizing Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) shorts for stroke gait rehabilitation with an accent on IMU-based control algorithms and clinical validation. What you will do

  • Retrain IMU-based gait-detection algorithms using stroke-patient data.
  • Conduct patient panels to assess the fit, comfort, and usability of FES technology.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists at Sint Maartenskliniek to tune and clinically assess stimulation protocols.
  • Develop adaptable FES control systems using onboard IMU signals.
  • Execute a pilot home-testing study to evaluate the feasibility of continuous gait monitoring.
  • Translate research findings into peer-reviewed publications and consortium deliverables.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Movement Science, Robotics, or a related discipline.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Experience with wearable-sensor (IMU) data and human motion analysis.
  • Solid programming skills, ideally in Python, for algorithm and control design.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary consortium.
  • Affinity for working with patients and clinicians in a hospital setting.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in Dutch for patient communication.
