Senior Optical Transport Engineer

Location: Onsite in Mt Laurel, New Jersey, or Denver, Colorado

Salary: $73,150–$174,000 base compensation range, with potential additional incentives, bonuses, or commissions.

What you will do

• Design end-to-end backbone wavelength services, including feasibility studies, route selection, optical path design, reach validation, and spectrum planning.
• Assign wavelengths and optimize optical spectrum while selecting transponders, muxponders, and line-side hardware.
• Provision, configure, integrate, and maintain services across multi-vendor Nokia and Ciena optical transport networks.
• Validate optical performance through power verification, testing, error-free burn-in, and customer acceptance activities.
• Troubleshoot network, optical, and service-layer issues involving OSNR, dispersion, span loss, framing, timing, and alarms.
• Coordinate with field operations, NOCs, engineering teams, customers, and vendors while maintaining circuit records and improving provisioning workflows.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience engineering, provisioning, or supporting DWDM and optical transport networks in a carrier or large-scale service provider environment.
• Strong knowledge of DWDM, ROADM architectures, wavelength planning, optical amplification, regeneration, OSNR, dispersion, and optical power budgets.
• Experience provisioning and troubleshooting optical transport equipment across multiple vendor platforms.
• Direct experience with Nokia 1830 PSS, PSD, PSI-M, and related optical transport platforms.
• Direct experience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver, and RLS optical platforms.
• Experience supporting long-haul or backbone optical transport networks, with strong documentation and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with optical network management and orchestration systems.
• Experience with optical service turn-up, customer acceptance testing, and production implementations.
