TL;DR

Controls Engineer II: Developing control system designs, deploying and commissioning PLC code, and creating graphical user interfaces for material handling systems with an accent on PLC/HMI implementation, on-site troubleshooting, and control network architecture. Focus on validating or emulating code functionality before deployment, executing module/subsystem/system test procedures, and collaborating cross-functionally to meet complex customer standards while improving productivity and reducing costs.

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, USA or Irving, Texas, USA (hybrid; 3 days per week in the office)

What you will do

  • Design and deploy control systems, including programming and commissioning PLC code and developing graphical user interfaces for material handling systems.
  • Validate or emulate code functionality before deployment and perform on-site testing and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot PLC code and electrical system functionality during on-site commissioning to support equipment and system testing.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to define electrical device requirements and design control network architecture; review complex customer standards and documentation.
  • Contribute to cost and resource estimates for module development and commissioning while monitoring alignment with project budgets.
  • Execute software quality processes via module, subsystem, and system-level test procedures and provide recommendations to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field with 5 years of experience in material handling (or 3 years with a Master’s degree).
  • Experience programming Rockwell Automation PLCs (including GuardLogix) and Siemens TIA Portal (including Starter).
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and strong understanding of HMI programming.
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis; no visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% annually, including short-term assignments with 10/4 rotations as project needs require.
