What you will do

• Design and implement scalable Java microservices using Spring Boot and cloud-native patterns.
• Own critical backend services and drive architectural improvements to ensure high availability.
• Lead code reviews and mentor engineers to elevate team engineering standards.
• Optimize system performance and troubleshoot complex production incidents.
• Collaborate with product and operations teams to define SLOs and operational runbooks.
• Contribute to API design, integration strategies, and data model decisions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of commercial software development experience with significant Java expertise.
• Proven track record of building microservices with Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Azure, including CI/CD pipelines and containerization.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with Microsoft SQL Server and ORMs like Hibernate/JPA.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logging).
• Must be based in or able to work hybridly from Nottingham.

Nice to have

• Experience with modern frontend technologies such as TypeScript and Angular.
