Environmental Specialist

Location: Nerviano, Milan, Italy; the role supports site operations, commissioning, inspections, and environmental compliance activities.

Budgeted salary range: €39,000–€49,000.

What you will do

• Lead the site's environmental compliance strategy across project and operational lifecycles, including permits, authorizations, inspections, audits, and regulatory submissions.
• Develop and maintain the Site Environmental Management System according to ISO 14001 principles, covering environmental aspects, impacts, procedures, controls, and KPIs.
• Manage waste, air emissions, wastewater, hazardous substances, monitoring activities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the environmental elements of the Major Accident Prevention Policy and Safety Management System, including Seveso risk assessments, Management of Change, and emergency planning.
• Provide environmental support for engineering projects from design through commissioning and start-up, including new facilities, equipment, process changes, due diligence, and Best Available Techniques.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Facilities, Corporate HSE, and the Process Safety & Seveso Specialist on sustainability, audits, reporting, and operational readiness.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or another relevant scientific discipline.
• Proven environmental management experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Good knowledge of Italian environmental legislation and permitting processes, including D.Lgs. 152/2006.
• Experience with Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001.
• Fluent Italian and English.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Seveso legislation and environmental aspects of Major Accident Prevention.
• Experience supporting Seveso or other major-hazard industrial sites.
• Project management and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and influencing skills.
