TL;DR
Senior Economist (Economic and Regulatory Policy): Conducting economic, financial, and policy analyses for transportation, public safety, and environmental protection programs with an accent on benefit-cost analysis, regulatory impacts, and economic modeling. Focus on quantifying policy effects on businesses, industries, employment, and the economy, while assessing risk, uncertainty, costs, and benefits for public-sector decisions.
Location: Reston, Virginia or Waltham, Massachusetts, with hybrid telework flexibility; other remote locations within the United States are also considered.
Salary: $89,649–$152,404 per year

What you will do
- Conduct economic, financial, policy, and quantitative analyses related to transportation, public safety, environmental protection, and domestic regulatory issues.
- Lead research supporting policy and regulatory decisions.
- Characterize baseline economic conditions, risks, and affected markets.
- Assess the costs and impacts of policies on businesses, industries, employment, and the broader economy.
- Develop models to evaluate costs, benefits, economic impacts, risks, and uncertainty.
- Collaborate with economists, scientists, modelers, regulatory specialists, and other subject-matter experts.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in economics or a related discipline with coursework in economics and at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in economics or a related discipline with coursework in economics and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply technical skills and innovative thinking to complex problems.
- Ability to work independently, provide thought leadership, adapt to client needs, and collaborate effectively.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for a client-facing role.
- Experience in economic consulting or a similar federal government function is highly desirable.
Nice to have
- PhD and experience conducting benefit-cost and regulatory impact analyses for US federal regulatory agencies.
- Knowledge of federal transportation or environmental programs and regulations.
- Knowledge of regulated industries such as oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, shipping, and utilities.
- Prior consulting experience.
