TL;DR

Lead Software Controls Engineer (Automotive): Developing and integrating embedded software control algorithms for new transmission systems with an accent on performance, drivability, and system-level interaction. Focus on designing robust control logic, validating software through HIL/SIL testing, and providing technical leadership within a cross-functional engineering team.

Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to Milford, Michigan (Hybrid: 3 days per week in office).

What you will do

  • Develop and refine embedded software control algorithms for transmission functions and shift execution.
  • Integrate transmission controls with vehicle-level and propulsion systems to ensure robust performance.
  • Translate system requirements into functional software designs and implementation plans.
  • Perform software verification activities including unit, SIL, HIL, and bench testing.
  • Troubleshoot complex controls issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews and mentor team members on engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software or controls development.
  • Proficiency in C, MATLAB, and Simulink or comparable toolchains.
  • Strong understanding of transmission, propulsion, or driveline control systems.
  • Experience in an Agile development environment with disciplined change management.
  • Ability to work on-site in Milford, Michigan at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded software or vehicle control domains.
  • Familiarity with functional safety, cybersecurity, or software-defined vehicle architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows and automated testing practices.
