TL;DR

Software Safety & Mission Assurance Specialist (Aerospace): Providing independent oversight of software products and development processes for satellite programs with an accent on risk assessment, compliance, and verification. Focus on ensuring flight-readiness through software hazard analysis, process audits, and rigorous validation in a safety-critical environment.

Location: Hybrid (Toronto, Ontario). Relocation packages available for approved roles.

Salary: $80,781 - 130,781 CAD

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain the Software Product Assurance strategy across the software lifecycle.
  • Conduct independent process and product audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Perform software hazard analysis (STPA, FTA) and assess residual software risks for flight readiness.
  • Oversee verification and validation strategies, reviewing plans and witnessing formal activities.
  • Serve as an independent member of Software Change Control Boards (CCBs) to evaluate the mission impact of changes.
  • Evaluate supplier software processes and monitor risk mitigation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in safety-critical industries (aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical).
  • Proven experience in SDLC, software verification, validation, and process auditing.
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management and change control.
  • Experience operating within regulated engineering environments.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of ECSS or NASA standards (e.g., ECSS-Q-ST-80, NASA-STD-8719.13).
  • Certification in AS9100 or ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with Software FMEA, STPA, or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Proficiency with tools like Jira, Confluence, Git, and static analysis tools (SonarQube, Coverity).
  • Experience with Agile software development in safety-critical environments.
