What you will do
- Develop and characterize advanced lung in vitro models, including airway/alveolar organoids and organ-on-chip systems.
- Drive laboratory workflows for modeling healthy and diseased lung environments, incorporating vascular or stromal components.
- Provide technical guidance and scientific mentorship to junior team members to foster a high-performing lab environment.
- Collaborate with internal research, translational medicine, and drug discovery units at and Roche.
- Evaluate external technologies and manage collaborations with academic institutions or CROs.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional forums.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biology, pharmacology, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Senior Scientist: 0-5 years of post-PhD experience; Principal Scientist: 5+ years of post-PhD experience.
- Proven expertise in developing 3D lung tissue models, organoids, or microphysiological systems (MPS).
- Deep technical mastery of lung biology and mechanisms of lung diseases.
- Expert hands-on experience with cells of pulmonary origin or iPSC-derived lung cell cultures.
- Must be based in or able to work onsite in South San Francisco, CA.
Nice to have
- Toxicology experience focusing on leveraging CIVMs to predict safety.
- Experience with 3D co-cultures and 3D vasculature.
- Proficiency in various omics approaches to study phenotypes in complex models.
- Excellent light microscopy and imaging skills.
