Salary: £200,000 – £250,000 Base + Bonus

What you will do

• Design and build scalable backend platforms supporting trading, portfolio management and quantitative research.
• Develop cloud-native applications, APIs and distributed systems using Python, AWS and modern engineering practices.
• Build real-time data pipelines and high-performance services processing large volumes of investment data.
• Collaborate directly with portfolio managers, traders and quantitative researchers to deliver innovative technical solutions.
• Drive engineering best practices across architecture, testing, CI/CD, security and long-term platform development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
• Strong Python development experience, specifically with Django, Flask or FastAPI.
• Proven expertise in backend development, API design, and building distributed systems.
• Professional experience with AWS and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Experience delivering products from initial concept through to production.
• Must be based in or able to work onsite from the Sydney CBD office.

Nice to have

• Experience with React or TypeScript.
• Knowledge of Docker and containerization.
• Experience with event-driven architectures or messaging systems.
• Background in financial services, capital markets or trading platforms.
• Experience working within high-growth engineering teams.
