Salary: $65,000–$70,000 per year

What you will do

• Write detailed news stories on congressional committee actions on deadline.
• Provide informative analysis of congressional committee actions and procedural developments.
• Interpret complex legislation, amendments, and floor actions.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with congressional sources.
• Pitch news stories and collaborate with the newsroom on markup coverage.

Requirements

• Must be able to work on-site at the U.S. Capitol buildings and press gallery office spaces.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
• 1+ years of reporting experience within an editorial team or congressional environment.
• Strong interest in policy, politics, and legislative procedure.
• Ability to write objectively and analyze complex legislative proposals.
• Excellent research, interviewing, and writing skills.
