TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer, Turbojet Engines (Aerospace): Developing and industrializing turbojet propulsion hardware from prototype through qualification and repeatable production with an accent on precision machining, special processes, quality systems, and high-temperature rotating components. Focus on solving complex manufacturing problems, validating equipment and processes, improving yield and cycle time, and supporting flight-critical engine assembly and testing.
Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite manufacturing role. Lawful access to information and technology subject to U.S. export controls is required.
Divergent develops integrated engineering and manufacturing solutions for demanding automotive, aerospace, and defense applications, including turbojet propulsion products.
What you will do
Own manufacturing activities for turbojet development and production programs, from individual components through complete engine builds.
Develop and optimize scalable processes for compressor and turbine wheels, blisks, shafts, casings, combustors, nozzles, bearing housings, and final engine assemblies.
Establish and control heat treatment, welding and brazing, balancing, coating, and nondestructive testing processes.
Lead new engine designs through factory introduction, including Design for Manufacturability, equipment and tooling introduction, process validation, engine build, balancing, and test-cell readiness.
Maintain process plans, routings, work instructions, and AS9102 first article inspection packages in compliance with AS9100; lead nonconformance investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action, and MRB dispositions.
Provide technical guidance to technicians, machinists, and production staff, lead cross-functional program teams, and support team growth and hiring.
Requirements
Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to U.S. export controls.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience for Engineer II, or 5+ years for Senior Engineer, in aerospace or defense, with direct exposure to gas turbine engines, turbomachinery, or comparable high-temperature, high-speed rotating hardware.
Hands-on experience with precision machining of difficult alloys, including nickel superalloys such as Inconel 718, titanium, or stainless steels, with 5-axis machining.
Proficiency with CAD such as Siemens NX and strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and CMM, optical, and surface metrology inspection methods.
Working knowledge of heat treatment, welding, coatings, and nondestructive testing including FPI, radiography, and CT.
Experience with MES, PLM, and ERP systems.
Demonstrated experience taking complex hardware from concept through production in high-reliability applications.
Nice to have
Experience with metal additive manufacturing for engine components, including laser powder bed fusion, post-processing, and qualification.
Experience with rotor balancing, turbine blade or vane manufacturing, and/or engine assembly and testing.
Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement expertise.
Familiarity with AS9100, AS9102, and ISO 9001 quality systems.
Experience with robotics or automation in machining, inspection, or assembly.
Culture & Benefits
Collaborative, dynamic, high-performing, and mission-driven manufacturing environment.
Competitive compensation including equity and discretionary results-based incentive bonus opportunities.
Paid vacation, sick time, company holidays, year-end shutdown, and paid parental leave.
HMO and Premium PPO health plans, company-sponsored life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
Learning and development reimbursement opportunities.
