Senior Design Engineer (Robotics)

Location: On-site in the Carson, California office; company headquarters in Los Angeles, United States.

Salary: $135K–$250K per year, plus potential equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Design robotic hardware, mechanical architectures, mechanisms, and end-of-arm tooling with emphasis on performance and reliability.
• Conduct FEA, thermal simulations, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and design validation before fabrication.
• Prototype, test, troubleshoot, and optimize hardware and automation systems using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other fabrication methods.
• Select electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components and integrate motors, sensors, and cabling with Electrical and Software teams.
• Lead risk assessments, root cause investigations, corrective actions, VAVE cost-reduction initiatives, and compliance with industrial safety standards including ISO/TR 20218-1, ISO 10218-1/-2, and ANSI/A3 R15.06.
• Manage BOMs, suppliers, validation protocols, product deployment, the full mechanical product lifecycle, and mentorship of junior engineers.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of working proficiency with CAD programs, hands-on prototyping, fabrication, or designing for 3D printing.
• Demonstrated experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and development of 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes including manual machining, CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and plastic 3D prototyping.
• Thorough understanding of materials for manufacturing.
• Ability to conduct RCCAs and trade studies and solve problems effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple teams and with customers.
• Willingness to work at an early-stage company with dynamic priorities.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of working proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Experience with industrial robots and six-degree-of-freedom robotic arms.
• Experience with machining, rapid prototyping, and fabrication processes and materials for functional design requirements.
• Experience with project management and product deployment.
• Familiarity with industrial facilities and equipment.
