Data Scientist (Trust & Safety): Building Replit's Trust & Safety and Anti-Abuse program from the ground up with an accent on turning behavioral, identity, and infrastructure signals into measurement systems and detections. Focus on designing risk models, combating AI-native abuse such as LLM token farming, and balancing abuse reduction with user friction.

Location: Hybrid in Foster City, CA (In-office requirement: Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

Salary: $210,000 – $310,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Own the analytical foundation for Trust & Safety, including abuse prevalence, fraud loss, and detection rates.
• Build reliable datasets and dbt models connecting product events, identity signals, and enforcement actions.
• Develop and evaluate risk models and anomaly-detection systems for phishing, cryptomining, and payment fraud.
• Design rigorous offline evaluations, shadow-mode tests, and controlled experiments to measure detection quality.
• Define decision frameworks to balance abuse reduction and economic loss against customer friction.
• Investigate emerging abuse patterns and turn ambiguous signals into clear recommendations for engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data science, product analytics, fraud, risk, or trust and safety.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with experience building reliable data models and pipelines.
• Experience developing predictive models and decision systems with sound judgment on uncertainty.
• Ability to communicate complex findings effectively to both technical and non-technical partners.
• Must be based in or able to work from the Foster City, CA office on a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping and maintaining ML models in production (classification, risk scoring).
• Expertise in graph analysis, entity resolution, or coordinated-behavior detection.
• Familiarity with identity providers (e.g., Persona, Socure, Stripe Identity) or KYC processes.
• Experience with causal inference methods like difference-in-differences or uplift modeling.
• Proficiency with a modern data stack including dbt, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Amplitude.
