What you will do

• Build, maintain, and scale back-end services to enhance core product offerings.
• Own the delivery of high-impact features and core system components.
• Drive development of advanced tests and ensure high code quality through thorough reviews.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to design technical roadmaps and reduce technical debt.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pair programming and code reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation to promote best practices.

Requirements

• Must be based in the UK with the right to work (no visa sponsorship).
• Proven experience building back-end services in Python and/or PHP.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, and data modeling best practices.
• Experience designing APIs within service-oriented architectures.
• Proficiency in software engineering principles like SOLID, DRY, and TDD.
• Excellent written and spoken English for clear communication with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with both PHP and Python.
• Domain experience in the UK Ed-Tech space.
• Familiarity with Laminas, Symphony, or FastAPI.
• Experience with service decomposition.
