Software Engineer (Bioinformatics)

Location: Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom; hybrid working with two days on site and three days from home

Salary: £3,452 monthly starting salary after tax, excluding pension and insurance

What you will do

• Design and develop software and RESTful APIs for UniProt data services and website applications.
• Provide protein information to the scientific community and computational biologists.
• Design, maintain, and monitor website cloud infrastructure.
• Write clear, concise, well-tested, and documented code with a focus on scalability.
• Apply analytic engines and technical approaches to distributed processing of big data.
• Work effectively toward tight deadlines within an interdisciplinary team of software engineers, bioinformaticians, biologists, and scientists.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in software development, including web back-end development.
• Experience with web cloud infrastructure and Agile processes.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience developing with Java and/or Python.
• Experience developing RESTful services and applications using Spring Boot.
• Experience developing web infrastructure with Solr and Kubernetes.
• Experience with key-value stores.
• Experience with Git and basic Unix commands.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-data processing technologies such as Apache Spark.
