Software Engineer (Bioinformatics)

TL;DR

Software Engineer (Bioinformatics): Designing and developing backend services and APIs for the UniProt data resource with an accent on scalability, cloud infrastructure, and distributed data processing. Focus on building robust, well-tested code to support the global scientific community in genomics and proteomics research.

Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to Hinxton, UK (Hybrid: 2 days on-site, 3 days remote).

Salary: £3,452 monthly (net, excluding pension and insurance).

What you will do

• Design and develop backend services and APIs for UniProt data services.
• Maintain and monitor website cloud infrastructure.
• Write clean, scalable, and well-documented code.
• Apply analytical engines to distributed big data processing.
• Collaborate with bioinformaticians, biologists, and scientists in an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to relocate to Hinxton, UK.
• Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in web backend development.
• Experience with Java and/or Python.
• Experience with RESTful services, SpringBoot, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Solr, Kubernetes, and key-value stores.
• Experience with Agile processes and Git.

Nice to have

• Experience with large data processing technologies such as Apache Spark.
