Lead Software Engineer, Backend (AI)

Location: Onsite at the hirify.global Malaysia R&D Centre in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

What you will do

• Manage gateway systems connecting millions of consumer devices with hundreds of backend services through hirify.global's service mesh.
• Build scalable, zero-downtime traffic routing and analytics solutions for the public edge, serving billions of daily requests.
• Develop, maintain, and operate control-plane and data-plane components in a high-availability cloud environment.
• Drive complex engineering projects across teams from inception through rollout.
• Debug infrastructure and codebase issues, resolve production incidents, and maintain deployment and code-review standards.
• Mentor engineers and promote effective development and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, and Internet protocols.
• Proficiency in at least one of Assembly, C, C#, C++, Go, Java, or Pascal, plus Bash, Python, and JavaScript.
• Experience designing and building distributed systems, including systems with massive concurrency.
• Experience with front-end development and debugging third-party codebases using common design patterns and algorithms.
• Experience leading complex technical projects and delivering impactful engineering initiatives end to end.
• Experience with AI/LLM technologies, agentic workflows such as MCP and Skills, rapid prototyping, and AI Loop/Harness Engineering.

Nice to have

• Expertise in HTTP/2, QUIC, and gRPC.
• Experience building monitoring and alerting systems.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and large-scale Docker/Kubernetes deployments.
• Experience with Consul or Envoy and their open-source communities.
• Startup experience.
